Classical concerts in Vienna: how to choose your evening
Vienna has a concert almost every night. These are the questions worth asking before you book one.
Start with the room
Most visitors choose by date and price, but the hall decides the evening. A ballroom with a gallery feels grand and sounds full; a smaller room puts you a few metres from the bows. Ask where the concert takes place, how many seats the room has and whether you can see a seating plan before paying.
The Wiener Royal Orchester plays in three rooms near the Ringstraße: the neo-Gothic hall at Beethovenplatz 1, and the King's Hall and Festsaal II of the Haus der Industrie on Schwarzenbergplatz.
Know what you will hear
A good listing names the composers and the length. Our programme is the same every evening: Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert, Brahms, Johann Strauss II, Lincke and Arditi, with a soprano, about 90 minutes with one intermission. If you know the programme in advance, you can choose by hall and date alone.
Check the timing
Our concerts start at 20:30, with the box office and doors open from 19:30. That leaves time for an early dinner in the first district and keeps the evening relaxed. If you have a train or flight the next morning, the concert ends around 22:00.
Understand the ticket
Booked online, your request goes to our office, and a person from our team contacts you to complete the booking. Nothing is posted. Tickets are handed over at the hall entrance on presentation of your booking confirmation and a photo ID. A change of date is free until 48 hours before the concert; a cancellation is possible within 14 days of booking, but never within 48 hours of the concert.
