Mozart and Strauss in one evening: the programme explained

From the Figaro overture to the Blue Danube, piece by piece, with what to listen for.

Wiener Royal Orchester officeUpdated 28 Sep 2026

Part I: Mozart to Arditi

The evening opens with the overture to Le nozze di Figaro and the Allegro from Eine kleine Nachtmusik, two of the most recognised pieces Mozart wrote in Vienna. Vivaldi's Spring from The Four Seasons follows, then Schubert's Ständchen and Arditi's waltz Il bacio for soprano.

Intermission

The break lasts about 20 minutes. Drinks are available in the hall.

Part II: dances and waltzes

Brahms's Hungarian Dance No. 5 and Lincke's Glühwürmchen-Idyll lead into Johann Strauss II: the waltz Morgenblätter, the Pizzicato-Polka and the polka Unter Donner und Blitz. The programme closes with An der schönen blauen Donau and a short tango medley.

Who plays

Concertmaster Michal Hudak leads the ensemble from the violin, with soprano Anna Ryan. On some evenings dancers join for the waltz numbers. The programme is subject to minor changes.
